Chiefs State They Are Aware of Alleged Abuse Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The NFL franchise released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of domestic violence allegations made public in online accounts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and were in communication with the NFL.
The team did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention Rice directly, posted a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the first six games of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a multi-vehicle accident on a Dallas highway that resulted in multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
On the field, he concluded the season with 53 catches for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
