Jennifer Lawrence States Speaking About Trump Would ‘Worsen the Situation’ Tearing the Nation Apart

Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels appropriate to speak out countering the Trump government, concerned it could exacerbate divisive discussions and further divisions within the country.

‘I Don’t Really Know If I Should’, Explains Lawrence

During a discussion, Lawrence commented, “Back in Trump’s initial term, I believed I was acting frantically like a chicken with my head cut off. But as we’ve learned, over multiple voting cycles, celebrities fail to influence at all on who people vote for.”

Lawrence added, “What’s the point? I’m just voicing my thoughts on something that’s going to heighten conflict that’s ripping the country apart.”

Changing Allegiances

Lawrence has spoken candidly about backing right and leftwing presidential nominees in past elections. Growing up with Republican parents in her home state, she voted for John McCain in the 2008 election prior to switching to the Democrats and revealing she understood during Obama’s administration that backing conservatives was opposing her own rights as a woman.

Past Statements

Several years ago, she commented that a Trump victory could represent “a disaster” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 presidential race. In the latest campaign, she lent her support to Vice President Harris, “because I feel she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will make every effort to protect abortion access.”

Celebrity Views

Lawrence was aligned with numerous celebrities in her opposition to Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the limited influence celebrities have over the electoral decisions was highlighted by his election win.

“The second term seems distinct,” noted the actress of his administration. “Because he made his plans clear. We were aware of his actions for the previous administration. He was transparent. And that’s what we chose.”

New Release

The actor is highlighting the drama, director Lynne Ramsay’s drama in which she stars as a new mother who faces challenges with her psychological well-being in a remote area. At a media event for the film in Venice, Lawrence commented on the situation in the Middle East: “I’m terrified. It’s horrifying. What’s taking place is no less than a humanitarian crisis and it’s awful.”

Broader Concerns

She continued by saying that she was disheartened by “the disrespect in the discourse of the political landscape currently and how that is going to be commonplace to the kids now. It’s going to be normal to them that elected officials deceive.”

The actor attempted to refocus outrage about the situation to policymakers rather than celebrities. “Keep attention on those accountable,” she said, in what many took to be a reference to the declaration signed by thousands of entertainment industry figures to refuse engagement with specific industry bodies.

Relatable Experiences

Lawrence, who won an Oscar aged 22 for her part in Silver Linings Playbook, is receiving praise for her performance in her latest project. Although Lynne Ramsay has disputed the narrative being understood as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, Lawrence revealed that she did relate to parts of her role’s experience after the delivery of her new baby, shortly after filming concluded.

“I felt anxiety about my child,” she commented, “envisioning every negative outcome, and then second-guessing everything that I was attempting. I was seeing a therapist, but I began using a drug called that medicine and I used it for two weeks and it was effective.”

Professional Experiences

Jennifer Lawrence also discussed regarding the freeing requirement of filming without clothes in the film while she was some months pregnant and couldn’t work out.

“There’s a freedom,” she said, regarding the need to abandon insecurities. “Truly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, How exactly do I differ between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
