British government has included 11 more destinations to its official warning roster about the threats of toxic alcohol toxicity from adulterated alcoholic drinks.

The revised warning features Bangladesh, India, Iran, Jordan, Libya, Malawi, Malaysia, Morocco, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, and Rwanda due to reports of "an international surge in the incidence of documented incidents" of industrial alcohol poisoning.

Only recently, the government had previously placed Ecuador, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, Russia, and Uganda to the existing register, following multiple high-profile events such as the tragic death of six travelers in Laos in 2024.

Tourists are being warned that as little as minimal doses of toxic alcohol can lead to permanent eye damage or death within twelve to forty-eight hrs.

Exactly what is Toxic Alcohol and In what way is it Employed?

Industrial alcohol is a harmful industrial alcohol often used in antifreeze, car cleaning liquid, and paint solvent. This substance is not meant for drinking.

While it is generated during the manufacture of alcoholic drinks, reputable manufacturers lower it to non-dangerous concentrations for ingestion through the refining procedure.

Yet in some countries, it is clandestinely blended into alcoholic drinks to cut costs, and as it is flavorless and scentless, it is impossible to identify.

Official Recommendations for Travellers

Government official the minister stated that each tourist should recognize the indicators of toxic alcohol contamination.
